Last weekend Ryan and I went on a mini road trip into the interior of BC. On the Saturday we drove to Manning Park and wanted to check out the wild flowers, unfortunately we were informed that they weren’t appearing yet. Should have checked before driving down! So instead we drove up a really windy road to Cascade Lookout and got absolutely drenched and wind swept. The view was amazing despite the weather.
From this point we really didn’t plan where we were going to go next. Got back on the highway and drove north. At a major junction we decided to turn towards Merritt and stay the night there. There really isn’t much to do in Merritt other than anything country and western.
The next day we decided to drive up to Wells Grey Provincial Park. We checked out Spahats Falls and Green Mountain Lookout. On our drive from Clearwater to these two spots we decided keep our eyes peeled for some black bears. Unfortunately, if there were any around on that day we didn’t see them, Ryan was rather disapointed. Over the two days we did see loads of deer, a marmot and a very vocal family of Columbian ground squirrels.
This trip was ultimately about driving and testing Ryan’s new car. The scenary was amazing and the roads take you through some spectacular mountain terrain. We’re planning a 9 day trip in September. We haven’t decided where we’ll go, but Ryan is leaning more towards driving down to California.
